
The Africa cup of nations started on Friday 21 June 2019.With the host nation, Egypt beating Zimbabwe 1-0 in the opening Match of the tournament. The host nation have won the tournament while hosting it and the last time they won when hosting was in 2006.The following is the recap of the recent winners of the tournament.

The 2010 edition was also known as the Orange Africa cup of nations for sponsorship reasons. It was the 27 edition of Africa cup of nations. The tournament was held in Angola where it began on 10 January and concluded on 31 January the same month.15 teams participated in the tournament where the eventual winners were Egypt winning their 7th title in the competition after edging out Ghana 1-0 in the final.

The 2012 Africa cup of nations also known as the Orange Africa cup of nations for sponsorship reasons was the 28th edition of the championship organized by confederation of African football (CAF).The tournament was cohosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.The tournament started on 21 January to 12 February 2012.The southern African regional body COSAFA Cup runners up, Zambia were the champion after a dramatic penalty shootout in the final against Ivory coast (8-7).This was their first Africa cup of nations title.

The 2013 was held from 19th January to 10th February 2013.This was the 29th edition of the tournament. Starting from this edition to being held in odd numbered years instead of even numbered years so that it does not clash with the FIFA world cup. South Africa hosted it for the second time after hosting it in 1996.It had 16 team format. The host were eliminated in the quarter finals by Mali. Nigeria won the tournament edition with a 1-0 victory over Burkina Faso in the final making their third title in the competition.

The 2015 tournament was also known as the Orange Africa cup of nations, Equitorial Guinea 2015 for sponsorship reasons. This was the 30th edition of the Africa cup of nations. The championship is usually organized by confederation of African football. It was from 17th January to 8th February 2015.The tournament was supposed to be hosted by Morocco who demanded postponement of the event as a result of Ebola manace in West Africa. But they were ruled out as a host country and replaced by Equitorial Guinea. Ivory coast won their second Africa cup of nations title, defeating Ghana 9-8 after penalty shootout in the final.

The 2017 Africa cup of nations was held from 14th January to 5th February, also referred to as Total Africa cup of nations, Gabon 2017(AFCON 2017).This was the 31st edition of the tournament. It was to be hosted by Libya but was instead moved to Gabon as a result of the ongoing civil war in the country. Cameroon won their fifth title after defeating seven time champions Egypt 2-1 in the finals.They are the current champions in the ongoing Africa cup of nations extravaganza. They qualified for the 2017 FIFA confederation cup in Russia.The tournament has been expanded from 16 teams to 24 teams in Egypt.
